Floatboxx MLC/MXC
The Floatboxx MLC/MXC is an aluminium controller box to house the Little Focer VESC controller between XR style rails.
- Compatible with the XR platform
- Holes for the Switchcraft 6-pin Hall sensor and 3-pin footpad connectors.
Next batch ships mid June 2023 !
2 Variants:
MLC: for LFocer
- M: Compatible with the Hypercore 6-pin Molex
- L: With 4x M3 studs fixed to mount the Little Focer VESC
- C: for M20/PG13,5 Cable gland to feed through an XT60 connector and other BMS wires., replacing the Molex 16-pin battery connector.
MXC: studless for other motor controllers
- M: Compatible with the Hypercore 6-pin Molex
- X: without studs, drill controller mouting yourself for other VESC brands
- C: for M20/PG13,5 Cable gland to feed through an XT60 connector and other BMS wires., replacing the Molex 16-pin battery connector.
If you want more freedom, get the studless variant Floatboxx MXC and drill the holes yourself. This is a general solution for DIY'ers that want to use a Ubox, Flipsky or other VESC controllers.
The size of the area on the right is about 110x82x30 mm with possibility to go under the edge of the top plate a few mm on 3 sides.
Weight: 490 gr = 17,3 oz (box, screws, lid, seal)
The advantage of Floatboxx aluminium box compared to other type of boxes:
- Strong ! Does not break under heavy use
- Aluminium welded construction
- Stainless steel inserts for the lid and rail mounting
- Practical
- The VESC can be mounted on the bottom and fixed on the M3 threaded studs.
- More space for Buzzer, BMS, rESCue, extra Li-Ion cells...
- Easy access for DIY: Just remove the footpad to access the lid. No need to remove rails, bumper, connector cover.
- Easy to waterproof: welding imperfections can be closed with silicone/MS Polymer/...
- The handle remains fully available
- Mounting holes for 3D printed LED strip holder
- Improved heat dissipation for the controller:
- The box is completely made of aluminium allowing optimal heat transfer.
- There's an air channel between the bottom of the controller box and the bumper
- Durable:
- the 2mm foamrubber sealing is compressed about 50% so the elastic properties are maintained after many cycles of opening.
Compatibility:
- rails: stock, Thunderrails, Varials, WTF*, Badgerwheel rails* (*requires some grinding of protrusions in the rail)
- bumpers: stock, BANGS, Badger bumpers* (*requires removal of the ridge near the wheel)
- footpad: stock XR, DIY footpads
Content:
- aluminum box with aluminum lid (both powderpainted white)
- foamrubber sealing sticker
- 2 vent stickers
- all nut 'n bolts in stainless steel.
- M4 lock nuts and washers for the Molex 6-pin connector
- M5 countersunk screws for the mounting of the box to the rails, and the connector cover to the box
- M3 countersunk screws for the lid
- M3 lock nuts and nylon washers for the Little Focer
- 2 square spacers to fill up the gaps in front when using Bang Bumpers
Options:
- Floatboxx connector cover in aluminium
- Hall/footpad extension cable set - 90 mm
- 12-core battery cable VESC: 2x AWG12, 2x AWG18, 8x AWG24 in PVC sheath OD 11 mm
- Adapter plate to mount an M20 cable gland for Superflux motor.
- The most compact M20 cable gland on the market.
- A tiny cable cable gland for the LED cable
Connections:

The connectors should be purchased separately:
- on/off switch: ø19 mm hole for the switch, wall thickness 9 mm
- Pre-wired available from Customwheel (Not compatible with switches from MakersPEV ! Their M19 thread is not long enough to fit our wall thickness)
- charge plug: ø20,5 mm hole for the Neutrik NC3 MPR-HD XLR
- Pre-wired available from MakersPEV/Customwheel)
- hall/footpad: 2x D-shaped holes for Switchcraft connectors
- Prewired from MakersPEV/Customwheel have typical too short wires (~100mm). Ask them for 200 mm wires or buy an extension set from Floatboxx.
- battery harnass: ø20,5 mm hole for M20x1,5 or PG13,5 cable gland with lock nut.
- Make sure you get the variant with the 22mm dome nut (not 24 mm)!
- motor: compatible with the Hypercore 6-pin Molex. Note that we designed for the Molex 6-pin with the gasket outside the box:
- Build it yourself with these components
- Molex CONN PLUG HSG 6POS 5.84MM 194290044, panel mount w/o boss (digikey link)
- Molex CONN PIN 14-16AWG CRIMP TIN 0194170027, male pin, 6x (digikey link)
- Buy a pre-wired Floatboxx set from Customwheel.shop for 24,79 € including the motor connector, M20 Cable gland and their compatible internal charger connector. Or contact us for a USA supplier.
- Build it yourself with these components
Notes:
- We use metric screws and tools: M5 to mount the box, M3 to mount the lid
- Floatboxx is not guaranteed to be waterproof on it's own. Do a visual inspection first for small gaps. For 100% certainty: use the Badgerwheel kit . Total waterproofness depends on the complete assembly by the user.
- Use a 1 mm thermal pad between the box and the Mosfets. The location of the VESC controller has no powdercoating for optimal heat transfer.
- we advise 1 mm because we supply a 0,5 mm nylon washer to go below the Mosfets as electrical isolator
3D print your Front Lightbar:
We opted to place the LED strip outside the Floatboxx in a 3D printed LED strip holder. See the picture below. This part is not included in the delivery and should be printed by yourself: 3D STP model of a LED strip holder v1 to mount in the front.
- Features: 10,5x4,5 mm slot for the LED strip. 3 mm gap to the bumper to glue a transparant screen.
- To be mounted on Floatboxx MLC with 2 self tapping screws.
- The ø8 mm vent-hole in the front of Floatboxx is perfectly placed to place a cable gland/plug. An M8 gland fits without drilling. For an M10 gland you should drill the hole to ø10 mm. A new vent hole can be drilled on the other side.
3D print a bracket for the rESCue mini light controller:
This is a 3D model of a bracket to hold the rESCue mini light controller and buck converter inside the Floatboxx MLC. The bracket should be 3D printed by yourself. It can be glued to the bottom, or fastened with screws.
